Robotype is a typeface that was collaboratively designed by Frederik Berllaen for the website of Robofont. Robofont is an open-access font editor, written entirely in Python, that prioritizes scalability. It is a comprehensive font editor equipped with all the necessary tools for creating typefaces. Frederik Berlaen, a type designer with a passion for programming and scripting, was the driving force behind the development of Robofont.
Originally, the intention behind designing Robotype was to make it one of Robofont's signature typefaces. However, its application expanded beyond that scope when it was also adopted for the new visual identity of S.M.A.K., the Museum of Contemporary Art in Ghent.
